SFCrowsNest Review of Banzai Girls

Friday, November 5th, 2010

“it would be unreasonable to call the book unsophisticated and that’s the key to its appeal. The lead character isn’t a meek Asian schoolgirl but by far the strongest person in her city and the threats she faces, while fantastical, are keyed into traditional Asian myths and legends. So the end result is something that manages to be both in-your-face and knowing at the same time, a tricky feat to pull off. … the artwork is first rate and the storyline both interesting and well-paced”

Project Fanboy review of Chaotic Soldiers

Friday, November 5th, 2010

“Peppino’s art is pretty strong, and he delivers that fantasy look. Edward Bola’s colors do a nice job of bringing the whole thing to life.

So, not only did I make it past the first two pages, but 132 pages later I find myself looking forward to what comes next.”

Unimaginable interview on Comic Vine

Monday, October 18th, 2010

“My next comic, UNIMAGINABLE, is coming out from Arcana Studio in December (and, PLUG PLUG, it’s listed on page 225 of the latest PREVIEWS. Ordering code OCT100764PLUG PLUG.) The idea started from a very vivid nightmare I had when I was 11. Around that time, I wrote a short story for creative writing assignment about a city of monsters that was inspired by DARK CITY. Both ideas cooled and mutated over with time. Eventually, they’d fuse together and pull in other influences I had over the years with their combined gravity – -  stuff like LITTLE NEMO IN SLUMBERLAND, theMorrison/Case run on DOOM PATROL and THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH. The clincher for the story was based on conclusions I came to about how ludicrous fear can be after I re-visited a wax museum that’d scarred the hell out of me a kid (oddly enough, around the time I had that nightmare.)”

Ain’t It Cool News Reviews Philosopher Rex

Friday, October 15th, 2010

“The Brothers Miller (Ian & Jason) inject new life into the genre of sorcerers and modern magic in this trade paperback collecting the first five issues of PHILOSOPHER REX… Part DOCTOR STRANGE, part GHOST HUNTERS, part SCOOBY DOO, PHILOSOPHER REX is both fun and scary all at once. Much like X-FILES, the Doc and his team travel the country taking on one paranormal case after another. Be they evil possessed wolves or possessed townies who cannot die, the Doc and his crew seem ready for anything. The Miller Brothers write tightly woven stories and juggle the varied characters with ease. I especially liked the next to last story told from the diary of a young woman in peril that the doc and his crew come to the aid of.”
