DESCRIPTION: John Henry, a former slave, wasn’t about to let some new-fangled steam hammer replace his ability to earn an honest wage as a steel driving man. In this alternate history, however, John doesn’t die in his heroic effort, but instead slips into a coma, only to awaken to his worst nightmare. A robotic uprising has occurred, and a new age has dawned – The Steam Age. Now, the only thing that can free the human race from the very machines they’ve created is John and his hammer. “John Henry: The Steam Age” is an exciting re-imagining of American folk hero John Henry in a SteamPunk setting.

If you’re interested in reading some about the history of The Book, the development of the project, and how the artist got involved with it, head over to THIS LINK to read the full article. Below is an excerpt.
What drew Amanda to this dark and innovative project? In her own words: ”Anyone who knows me and how I feel about comics (and movies, books ect.) knows I tend to side with the villain over the hero. No, I’m not wicked or mean-spirited in any way, it’s just that villains are always more interesting! I was hooked on The Book when I saw Krieger’s description…I wanted to be involved with the project even more when I got a load of that lovely skinless fellow gracing the cover. What can I say? How often does a Hellraiser super fan get to put their own spin on a skinless villain? It’s a dream come true, I say!”
Writer, Erik Hendrix also shares his thoughts on the cool, brand new graphic novel (not generally available until later this year): ”The Book was actually a combination of two ideas, one that Michael David Nelsen had and one that I had. Michael’s featured a series of DIY travel guides and I had a story about people killing themselves and using a ritual to bring themselves back from the dead in an attempt to learn religious secrets from the other side. By combining the two ideas, we found the right mixture of characters and back story, which developed into a secret religion with ties to both the bible and religious “mythology”.
The Book arrives in stores in December and makes its debut in August on ComiXology starting with Issue 1! You can pre-order it now through Arcana.com and other online retailers.

These unofficial guides are collected and updated with first-hand experiences by the travelers themselves. Different “Books” scatter the continent, telling of the best lodging, deals, and “off the grid” adventures from sight seeing to local folklore for anyone clever enough to find them. A local cult, practitioners of Sanctus Letum, the Holy Death, disrupts the American’s plans for adventure when they hide pages from the Dark Book, Shaitan, in one of the travel guides. The friends are lead down a path of secret religion, death, resurrection, and demonology.
Word of the Nerd recently previewed and reviewed Arcana’s upcoming Deadly Harvest. You can read the full review BY CLICKING HERE, but see the excerpt below and find out how you can order a copy of the book.
“Take one part Deadliest Catch, and one part Firefly. Season with a dash ofPirates of the Caribbean. Mix until consistency is smooth. Garnish with a pinch of Aliens, and serve at absolute zero. This is the recipe for Deadly Harvest, from Arcana…
Messrs. Hendrix and Nelson tell a fine story, moving the plot along at a quick pace and, with Mr. Roumboulias’ artwork, really convey the urgency and danger these miners face in their daily activities. In this line of work anyone can get killed at any time, just by doing their job, and the creative team does a great job of showing this. This really is a “summer blockbuster” type of book, a quick fun read, full of action and adventure.“

Curse of the Cortes Stone, which is available for Pre-Order NOW, was recently reviewed by Broken Icon. You can read an excerpt below, but be sure to read the entire review by CLICKING HERE.
The storyline is fast paced and filled with action. The story is very good and not bogged down with trying to give a lot of information about characters the readers may not be familiar with. I’ve only ever read Shadowflame’s comics but this crossover makes me want to get my hands on The Wraith and Johnny Saturn’s stories to read more about them. Dircherl, Martino, and Story do a very good job of writing a story that is wonderful and seems to be true to the respective characters.
The art is very detailed. It’s so detailed that I spent a good bit of time actually studying each page on my second read through. The many details aren’t needed for the over all story, they are just really nice additions I still love the sound effects and visual effects added in both the words and the details, they supplement the art very well. I really liked the zombies. They were disgusting to look at, like all zombies should be, but were not juicy as some I have seen when dug up from graves to serve people. The artist put in all stages of decay and that is awesome as sometimes some artists leave out the almost skeletons.
Again, be sure to CLICK HERE to read the entire review. Read on for more information on the book!
