“…a compelling premise, a unique story, and an especially strong sense of foreboding throughout.”

“Heavy, thought-provoking stuff.”

“For a story focused around snoozing, it’s a surprisingly enthralling read that weighs both sides of the debate
with gusto.”

Amour reviewed over at ComicBuzz.com

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

ComicBuzz.com recently reviewed our Romantic titles, Amour Volumes 1 and 2. You can read a portion of the reviews below, but be sure to click HERE and HERE to read the two in full!

Of Volume 1:

There’s definitely a good mix of stories, as the focus switches from online dating, to female masturbation, to sentimentality, to the supernatural. This does make the reading experience a little imbalanced and disorientating, but it also shows the variety that Romance can reach.
The art from Ezequiel Pineda is good throughout, with all the art being in black and white. Some of the stories have more grey shading/colouring and I think they improve the visuals, though the more stark black and white strips look good too.
This volume definitely contains a mix of content and quality, despite all being romance focused. However, a lot of the writing is good, particularly the dialogue and the artist does well to match the changing the nature of each story.

Of Volume 2:

Overall I prefer this volume to the first. The stories feel more accomplished and there more individual tales that I enjoyed to a greater extent. In this volume, it is the strips where the couple that feature are already together that work best, rather than the date or courtship focused plots. They are more sentimental and sweet, but they also make for more enjoyable reads and fit more easily with the romantic theme.

Thank you to ComicBuzz.com for the reviews and, again, be sure to click HERE and HERE to read the two in full!

One Geek Nation’s Review of FCBD Intrinsic Issue 1

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Intrinsic Issue 1 comes out on Free Comic Book Day, but it’s already getting some buzz! One Geek Nation recently reviewed the book and LOVED IT! You can read the entire review by CLICKING HERE, but you can read a sampling of it below.

Arcana has put out a great comic book for Free Comic Book Day. The Instrinsic #1 is the first part of a story, and on top of that all of the characters featured in the story are previously published characters from Arcana Studios. On top of that they have written on of the better first issue team up books I have read in a long time. Too often writers don’t know how to bring a group together but here the writers do a wonderful job of starting to bring the group together. Subtle humor plays a part in the issue just as any good super hero team up comic book should. This book is a must read on Free Comic Book Day.

Be sure to pick up a copy of Intrinsic Issue 1 FREE on Free Comic Book Day, May 5th, at your favorite comic book shop!

Broken Icon Reviews Curse of the Cortes Stone

Monday, April 16th, 2012

Curse of the Cortes Stone, which is available for Pre-Order NOW, was recently reviewed by Broken Icon. You can read an excerpt below, but be sure to read the entire review by CLICKING HERE.

The storyline is fast paced and filled with action. The story is very good and not bogged down with trying to give a lot of information about characters the readers may not be familiar with. I’ve only ever read Shadowflame’s comics but this crossover makes me want to get my hands on The Wraith and Johnny Saturn’s stories to read more about them. Dircherl, Martino, and Story do a very good job of writing a story that is wonderful and seems to be true to the respective characters.

The art is very detailed. It’s so detailed that I spent a good bit of time actually studying each page on my second read through. The many details aren’t needed for the over all story, they are just really nice additions I still love the sound effects and visual effects added in both the words and the details, they supplement the art very well. I really liked the zombies. They were disgusting to look at, like all zombies should be, but were not juicy as some I have seen when dug up from graves to serve people. The artist put in all stages of decay and that is awesome as sometimes some artists leave out the almost skeletons.

Again, be sure to CLICK HERE to read the entire review. Read on for more information on the book!

Paper Dragon Ink interviews Sean Patrick O’Reilly on Intrinsic

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

Paper Dragon Ink recently did an email interview with Intrinsic writer, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, to discuss the origins of the story, starting this FCBD May 5th with Intrinsic #1. They also touched on the characters, what they bring to the team, and the writing dynamic between himself, Casey Jones, and Erik Hendrix. You can read the entire interview by CLICKING HERE, but below is an excerpt. DO NOT MISS Intrinsic #1 this FCBD!

2.) What specific characters did you choose? Why?

The characters pretty much picked themselves in our minds… Kade is where Arcana began several years ago, so he had to be included to show just how far the character has come since his inception. Candice Crow and Philosopher Rex represent the breadth of characters Arcana has - Candice is the flawed superhero, super-confident in costume and extremely uncertain out of it. Philosopher Rex’s main character, Ishmael Stone, is the other side of the spectrum, a super-confident modern day wizard, delving into the darker side of the Arcanaverse. Kore represents some of what we’ve done along the way – in this case acquiring a number of spectacular characters from the Devil’s Due universe. The other main characters are ones who were created through the evolution of the storyline, unique in their own way and each could easily stand on their own. From a character standpoint, each has a different perspective and history they bring to the table, creating an imperfect dynamic among characters who need to learn to work together.

3.) What is the threat to the heroes?

The end of all things! Kade’s biggest nemesis, Apollyon, is set on a particular goal, which leads him to tear through the fabric of multiple realities. Nothing good can come of that! He has an army behind him and it is up to the assembled Intrinsic team to find him and defeat him.

4.) Why do choose to burst the reader into the action? How does that lead the reader in?

We started Intrinsic out with a bang, showing countless heroes getting their collective rears handed to them by Apollyon and his army. It helps give perspective to what’s at stake… Stop him or everything you care about goes away.

There’s a LOT more in the interview, so be sure to head over to the Paper Dragon Ink site by CLICKING HERE to read it in full.

Be sure NOT to miss Intrinsic Issue 1 for FREE on Free Comic Book Day, May 5th at your favorite comic book store. Also, don’t forget, the story from Intrinsic continues in Issue 2, coming out this July from Arcana Comics. You can pre-order it NOW through your favorite comic book shops by giving them Diamond Previews Code MAY120836!
